DUBAI

I love Dubai. It's my concrete jungle, fusing the West and the Middle East into one big vibrant city. With only 13% of the people living in Dubai being national Emiratis, it really is a big melting pot of races, religions and cultures. The Middle East is often portrayed as an area deep in conflict with religious clashes damaging the lives of millions. Although this is the case with many countries in the Middle East, people in Dubai live harmoniously with one another, where you can see traditional Arab Muslims walking side by side with the liberal Westerners who have emigrated to the country.

Dubai is the Middle Eastern version of New York; the city that never sleeps. There is always an event to go to, a new restaurant to dine at or a shopping centre to satisfy your shoe habit. The city has come a long way to what it once was, a sandy derelict desert with certainly no seven star hotels surrounding the area. With the tall skyscrapers, the fast cars and super size shopping centres, it's hard to believe that thirty years ago, none of this existed. However, there is more to Dubai than the shops and five star hotels which so many tourists fear to go beyond.

In this five part blog series, I am going to show you everything I love about Dubai, both the old and the new. To anyone who is looking to travel to Dubai, I hope I can give you a little insight into all the fantastic things you can do in this ever growing city.
